Richard R. Nelson

RICHARD (Dick) R. NELSON, age 66 of Fairview, Texas, died Thursday, May 29, 2008 at North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale, Minnesota.

Born in Albert Lea, Minnesota on September 19, 1941, he was the son of Leslie and Bernadine (Revland) Nelson. He graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1959 and attended Luther College in Decorah, Iowa for two years before graduating in 1963 from Mankato State University – he majored in Biology and Chemistry. He married Irene Nelson, also of Albert Lea, on February 15, 1964 at First Baptist Church in Clarks Grove, Minnesota. They lived in Wayzata, Minnesota for two years before moving to Golden Valley, MN where they lived for 39 years. Dick worked at Pillsbury Co. as an Analytical Chemist for seventeen years and then worked as a Senior Scientist at LaMaur Co., DOW Brands and FilmTec (all of Minneapolis) until retirement.

His hobbies included a passion for tennis, traveling, and being with family which included an annual Colorado ski trip. Dick and Irene were members of Valley of Peace Lutheran Church in Golden Valley, Minnesota for 38 years.

He is survived by his wife, Irene of Fairview, Texas, (they had been married 44 years); two sons, Greg (Lisa) Nelson of Dallas, Texas and Scott (Peggy) Nelson of Golden Valley, Minnesota; three grandchildren, Courtney (Mrs. Patrick) Wilkins, Jack Nelson and Cate Nelson; mother-in-law, Ruth Nelson of Waterville, Minnesota, brother-in-law, Vern (Linda) Nelson of Waterville, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation was held at the Prosch-Dennis Funeral Home in Waterville, Minnesota on Monday, June 2, 2008. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, June 3, 2008 at Grace Lutheran Church in Waseca, Minnesota.

Dick & Irene have always lived in Minnesota until 2 years ago when they built a home at Heritage Ranch in Fairview, Texas to be near their son Greg (Lisa) and twin grandchildren Jack & Cate Nelson. Dick enjoyed a myriad of retirement activities at Heritage Ranch, but especially tennis, square dancing, games, entertainment & many new friends.
