Jack and Cate Update -- August, 2009

Thursday, July 30, 2009

OK, so *technically* this isn't from August, but we just received these photos of Cate from the [Heritage Ranch](http://www.heritageranchhoa.com/) Kids' Camp. Just as she did last year, Grandma Irene went to camp with the kids from Sunday through Friday.

On Sunday evening (just an hour after we left), Cate was ["kinda missing" Lisa](audio/vm-20090726-1806.mp3). By Tuesday night, Jack would ["wanna come home"](audio/vm-20090728-1905.mp3). But everyone was ["having a good time"](audio/vm-20090729.mp3) just a night later.

Birthday party sleep-overs now apparently include professional photographers (I kid you not).

I'm opposed. Damn opposed.

On a late-summer lark, Cole decided to get a mohawk. After thoughtful consideration, Jack renders his judgment.

Tuesday, August 4, 2009

When school started just three weeks later, the mohawk was gone and a buzzcut was in its place.

Tuesday, August 4, 2009

One kid, two looks: innocent youth and future felon. That's versatility.

Friday, August 14, 2009

For the third year in a row, Cate went to Cheer Camp with the Woodrow Wilson High School Cheerleaders. This year, she was joined by Hannah Peaslee who's going to first grade at Lakewood Elementary.

(Hannah's Mom, Elizabeth, gets the photo credit on this one.)

We've suspected for several months that Jack needed glasses, and we got official confirmation just a few weeks ago. Jack is excited to see the world again, and we're thrilled his vision no longer interferes with his TV watching and video game playing.

This is Cate's over-priced "bear bed" from the good folks at [Build-a-Bear](http://www.buildabear.com/) (in a stroke of absolute genius, they've convinced parents their children's lives will be meaningless and emotionally retarded without $50 custom stuffed animals). Showing more than a little good sense, Snickerdoodle appropriated the bed and put it to good (albeit cramped) use.

We had an extra-special family outing to do some super-memorable bowling. Jack was... sorta... kinda... pumped.

Saturday, August 22, 2009

Cate. Bowling. Pumped.

Saturday, August 22, 2009

Donna Kaufman was visiting Kevin and Zac in Houston, and they were kind enough to drive to Dallas for a weekend with us.

At least two people in this photo are nearly pumped. We rock.

Monday, August 24, 2009

After a long (and I mean long; ask Lisa) summer, it was back to school this month. On the left, we have a photo suitable for framing complete with Snickerdoodle posing perfectly.

On the right, Jack answers the question: "How are you going to do in third grade?"

Monday, August 24, 2009

Cate is excited to be in Miss Martin's class this year. Jack is excited to be in Miss Gillespie's class this year. Snick is excited to be peeing in Jack's bedroom this year.

Monday, August 24, 2009

Jack looks especially dashing with his spikey hair and a second pair of glasses that we especially like.

We went to the optical shop to get him a pair of sports glasses and they informed us it was actually cheaper to get two pairs of glasses than to buy only one. We informed them we're in favor of cheaper.

Monday, August 24, 2009

When did Cate turn fourteen? I may have to lock her in her room until she graduates from high school.

Monday, August 24, 2009

When the boy lets you take his photo, you take 'em and post 'em. Done and done.

Monday, August 31, 2009

After a three-year hiatus, Jack has once again donned his soccer cleats. He's practicing hard and joining the scrum around the ball.

Monday, August 31, 2009

He's practicing hard and joining the scrum around the ball when he's not messing with his glasses.
