Jack and Cate Update -- September, 2009

September, 2009

A new school year means new essays. Here's one of Jack's in which he discusses some of the most important things in his busy life.

What do you do when your child doesn't have the sense to come out of the rain?

Given all the photos, it's pretty clear what I do.

When Lisa returned home, I assured her that Cate had played outside *and* taken a shower while she was gone. That's a super-parenting, kill-two-birds-with-one-stone kinda thing.

Finally wise to the camera across the street, she strikes a soggy pose.

Because her schedule wasn't already dangerously overloaded, Lisa served as wedding coordinator for her friend Casey. After weeks of stress and with her responsibilities complete, Lisa goes loopy in the photobooth.

The wedding and reception were at the [Stoneleigh Hotel penthouse](http://www.stoneleighhotel.com/photos/index.html), and we stayed the night for maximal loopiness.

Quinn, Jackson, Shriver, and Jack at [Woodrow's football game](http://www.hsgametime.com/dfw/sharedcontent/dws/spt/highschools/leaderboard/v3/dallas/woodrowwilson/stories/091909dnspongarland.193f5bff6.html).

Looking desperately for trouble.

Don't mess with them. They've got gang-signs and somewhat slightly bad attitudes.

Friday, September 18, 2009

The real reason we were at the football game, of course, was to watch Cate and her cheer-camp classmates. It may be past her bedtime, but she can work it.

Friday, September 18, 2009

While we lost Jack to the roving pack of elementary school boys for much of the evening, Cate hung with the cheerleaders before halftime and her Grandma after halftime.

We're now accepting calls from people who can explain this. Operators are standing by -- call now!

We took Grandma Irene to [Poppy's](http://www.poppys-gardencafe.com/) for her birthday dinner. To ensure we never forget her birthday, she thoughtfully scheduled it on ITLAPD ([International Talk Like a Pirate Day](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Talk_Like_a_Pirate_Day)). Argh!

Saturday, September 19, 2009

Prediction: this night will not end well.

Saturday, September 19, 2009

A birthday dinner with Grandma Irene -- why, that's the perfect time to take a new [Facebook](http://www.facebook.com) profile photo. It's what all the kids are doing nowadays.

Wednesday, September 23, 2009

Apparently, the kids are also doing this nowadays.

I just wish they'd stop.

Saturday, September 26, 2009

One day, soccer aficionados will look back at this day and recognize Jack's pivotal developmental contributions to the modern heel kick. Probably.

Saturday, September 26, 2009

Nary a forward or a soccer ball in sight. That's some serious defensive play.

To help raise money for the school, we went to the Redneck Roundup. Unfortunately, we also went to a slightly posher soirée before the roundup where we spent much of our time explaining our appearance. I'm not sure anyone cared...
